In the event of an outage, please take the following steps to report your outage to Steuben County REMC:
Check your breakers.
If power is not restored, the
issue may be with our system.
Check your meter.
If there is a digital reading on the face, the outage issue is at your home, not because of our system.
Check with your neighbors.
If it appears your neighbors are out of power as well, the outage is most likely a problem with our system.
Contact the office.
Call us at (260) 665-3563.
Be sure to have your service location (not your billing address) available, as well as the name of the account holder.
- If electrical lines are down, do NOT go near them.
- Look outside your windows to see if there are any trees or limbs that may have brought down electrical lines.
- Do not assume that your neighbor has reported an outage, always call the office.
Phones are answered 24 hours a day for outage situations. For billing inquiries, new services and any other non-outage related situation, please call during normal business hours, M-F 7:30am-4:30pm.

What to do during a power outage:
If you experience a power outage, take heed of some of these tips and tricks to ensure the life and safety of your home and valuables.
If you are without power for an extended period of time, turn off large electric appliances and equipment. This practice prevents circuits from being overloaded if refrigerators, water heaters, computers, TVs, and other appliances come on all at once when power is restored.
Keep one lamp on so you will know when the power is restored.
Keep the door to your refrigerator or freezer closed. If your door seals are tight, your food will normally be safe for several hours without power.
Once your power has been restored, remember to plug in or turn on any needed electric appliances or equipment that you shut off during the outage. Also restock your emergency supplies.
